Hi everyone - I want to take a moment to thank you for all the support throughout this campaign and for all the encouragement and well wishes that have come in over the last 12 hours. The outpouring of love I have received is something I will never forget. We came up short in this election, but we have accomplished a lot and I am excited about what comes next. That excitement comes from all of you. Karissa and I have made new friends all over Illinois who are motived by the same ideals that motivate us. As I have said many times, we do not live in a perfect country. But we do live in a country that can - with passion and hard work and dedication - be changed. We are lucky to live in such a place. We cannot take such a thing for granted. Although my campaign has ended, the work will continue for me, for I will never again be lulled into the notion that I am merely maintaining something prior generations have built. For those who have poured their hearts and souls into this campaign, I hope the work will continue for you as well. It is our turn to win the hard fights that lead to progress. It is our turn to build this democracy. I know there is concern and cynicism right now about the direction of this country. The silver lining - and I experienced this in every living room, coffee shop, union hall, and library that I visited - is that these challenges are leading to a rebirth of civic engagement, the likes of which we have not seen in a generation. I have seen that silver lining in all of you. The American people believe in equal opportunity. The American people believe in a fair government. The American people believe in building a better country. When those ideals are truly threatened, as we have seen in recent years, the American people will show up. And showing up they are. I will be right there with them throughout the rest of 2018 and beyond. This isn't the end. It isn't even the end of the beginning. Congratulations to Betsy Dirksen Londrigan for running a fantastic campaign. I called her last night to let her know I will do whatever I can to help her win in November. That's what this has always been about - flipping #IL13. And to David Gill, Jon Ebel for Congress, and Angel Sides - it has been an honor sharing a stage with each of you. I truly believe we were all in this for the right reasons. Lastly, if it takes me a bit to respond to direct messages, emails, phone calls, and texts, I'm sorry! A lot are coming in, but I will get to each and every one. I promise. Today is Wyatt's 3rd birthday and he's getting 100% of his Dad today. But I'll be back at it tomorrow, helping make sure that #BlueWave crashes here in Illinois. "Democracy is not a static thing, it's an everlasting march." - FDR Sincerely, Erik Jones
